TONIGHT'S GAME: The Louisville Bats and Columbus Clippers continue their four-game series Tuesday night at Louisville Slugger Field, with the Bats getting back to .500 (22-22) since the All-Star break on the heels of their first shutout win at home this season. Tonight, right-hander Tejay Antone gets the ball for the Bats as they look to win their third straight ballgame.
AGAINST COLUMBUS: Last night's win snapped a four-game losing streak against the Clippers, giving Louisville a chance to still end the season series with a .500 record if they win the next 3 games against Columbus. The nine-run win was Louisville's largest defeat of Columbus by run differential since June 25, 2018 at Columbus (11-2). It was LOU's largest shutout win over COL since August 7, 1998 at Columbus (11-0).
DOMINANT VICTORY: The Bats were firing on all cylinders Monday night, defeating Columbus by a 9-0 score. It was Louisville's second straight win to begin the homestand, winning by their largest margin of victory in a shutout since April 24, 2016 at Norfolk (9-0). With the win, Louisville also improved to 6-5 in shutout games this season, matching the exact record they finished 2018 with in shutout contests.
MEDIUM BALL: Louisville had 9 extra-base hits last night despite no home runs, tying their season-high with 9 XBH (July 31 at Columbus in an 11-8 win). The 7 doubles also tied a season-high with July 2 vs. Indianapolis in a 6-1 win. Bats catcher Nick Ciuffo tallied 3 doubles, the most two-baggers a Louisville player has recorded in a game since Felix Perez had 3 on July 28, 2014 vs. Charlotte.
- The 9 XBH were the most LOU's had without a home run since at least the 2010 season. For reference, it has not been done in an MLB game since the Giants did it on June 11, 2017.
CC NEARLY MISSES CYCLE: Third baseman Christian Colon went 4-for-5 with 2 doubles and a triple, falling a home run short of the cycle. In his last 8 games, he is batting .536 (15-for-28) with 5 runs, 2 doubles, one triple, 2 home runs and 6 RBI.
Missed the Feat by Feet: Needing a home run to complete the cycle, Colon's second double of the night in the eighth inning narrowly missed leaving the ballpark, banging off the top of the left field wall.
TREMENDOUS 'PENMANSHIP: Louisville relievers Justin Grimm, Wandy Peralta, Sal Romano and Jimmy Herget combined for 4.0 scoreless innings last night, each tossing a frame out of the bullpen. Louisville relievers have not allowed a run in 16.0 straight innings, with 3 walks and 19 strikeouts in that span. As a whole, Louisville's overall pitching staff has the second-lowest ERA (4.03) since July 1, trailing only Syracuse (3.91).
OPPORTUNITY RISP: The Bats had 22 at-bats with runners in scoring position Monday, easily passing their season-high 19 set on July 29 at Toledo (W 13-4). The 22 were the most LOU's had in a game since June 25, 2015 when they went 13-for-22 with runners in scoring position in a 15-2 win at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
HOME RUN WATCH: The 2019 Bats have hit 160 home runs this season, tied for second-most in franchise (since 1982) history, currently on pace to hit approximately 168 home runs over the 140-game schedule.
