Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (56-78) were victorious Tuesday night at Louisville Slugger Field beating the Columbus Clippers (76-58) by a score of 6-0. Bats' starter Tejay Antone (3-8, 4.87) pitched impressively, striking out nine to improve Louisville's winning streak to three.
Antone and Clippers starting pitcher Scott Moss (2-1, 2.45) were both impressive from the start, with Antone ultimately prevailing. In a pitching duel early on, Moss worked 4.2 innings striking out nine batters, scattering four hits while allowing two runs and picking up the loss.
Louisville would be the first to score in the game as Alfredo Rodriguez would reach safely on a walk with two outs. Rodriguez would advance to second base thanks to a Jose Siri single. Rodriguez eventually would score after stealing third base and advancing home on a throwing error by Clippers catcher Eric Haase. Siri would also come around to score on a Narciso Crook single to extend the Bats' lead to 2-0, who led Louisville at the plate going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a walk.
In 7.0 innings, Antone impressed as he struck out nine, one shy of tying a career-high 10 he set on July 14, 2018 while pitching for Daytona. In the win, Antone issued just one walk and five hits.
The Bats' offense would play small-ball in the seventh, adding four runs to extend their lead to 6-0. Louisville would load the bases three times in the inning sending nine batters to the plate.
Following Antone, the Bats turned to reliever Sal Romano, who worked a scoreless eighth inning striking out one. Louisville reliever Alex Powers closed the game out pitching the ninth inning securing the shutout, the second in as many nights.
The back-to-back shutouts mark the first time Louisville has done so since June 8-9, 2017 in wins at Columbus and vs. Toledo. The trio of pitchers helped to extend the Bats' 26-straight scoreless innings.
The Bats and Clippers continue their four-game series Wednesday night at Louisville Slugger Field. While Louisville has not announced their starter, right-hander Jordan Stephens (4-7, 8.36) is expected to get the start for Columbus.
