Chivas USA Put an End to New York Red Bulls' Longest Winning Streak in Nine Years

Chivas USA (4-6-2) tied 1-1 to the New York Red Bulls (8-3-2), Wednesday afternoon, before a crowd of 13,919 at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. Goat's forward Juan Pablo Angel gave the lead to his squad in the 47th minute, and Red Bulls' forward Kenny Cooper provided the equalizer in the 56th minute. With the draw, the Red-and-White stands with 14 points in the Western Conference.

Angel Scores in Return as Goats Get Road Point in NY

Continuing a busy schedule with a midweek away game, Chivas USA produced a solid result, taking a 1-1 draw home from a visit to the New York Red Bulls. The first half saw plenty of end-to-end action and close calls, but finished scoreless. Striker (and former Red Bull) Juan Pablo Angel opened the scoring in the 47th minute, playing his first game at Red Bull Arena as a member of Chivas USA. A corner kick from Blair Gavin was met with a great header by Rauwshan McKenzie that found Angel at the edge of the six-yard box. The 36-year-old Colombian took the chance brilliantly, smashing an acrobatic side-volley into the back of the net. Out of respect for his former team and fans, Angel did not celebrate his goal. Kenny Cooper finished the scoring in the 57th minute, sending both teams home with one point. Head Coach Robin Fraser considered it a solid result, saying: "At the end of the day a point on the road is good. Certainly, we want to continue to improve the way we're closing out games and that needs to continue to get better. But at the end of the day, it was a really hard fought point. The players dug in, it's a tough situation; this is a good team. This is a good team and it's their place; lots of very special players that can make plays."
