Chivas USA to Start 2012 U.S. Open Cup Campaign Next Tuesday vs. Ventura County Fusion

Carson, CA. (Friday, May 25, 2012) - Chivas USA will begin their 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play next week with a third round match-up against the Ventura County Fusion. The match is set for 7:00pm PT, Tuesday May 29th at Ventura College Sports Complex.

Ventura County Fusion, members of the Premier Development League (PDL) advanced to the third round for the first time in club history with a 3-1 win Tuesday night against the L.A. Blues. In the first round, Ventura County defeated the Fullerton Rangers.

Chivas USA and Ventura County Fusion will be somewhat familiar adversaries; the two teams having met earlier this year in a January 27th preseason exhibition in Oxnard, California.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is now in its 99th year, and is the oldest national cup competition in American soccer. This year's tournament features 64 teams, with all U.S. based MLS teams receiving automatic berths into the third round. The US Open Cup Final is set for August 7th or 8th.

The winner of Tuesday's Chivas USA-Ventura County match will take on the winner of the game between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Carolina RailHawks on Tuesday, June 5.
