Sporting Kansas City News Release
Sporting Kansas City will welcome league leaders San Jose Earthquakes to LIVESTRONG Sporting Park at 3:30 p.m. CT on Sunday. A limited number of tickets are still available for the match and can be purchased id=10004&minorcatid=11 online at Ticketmaster.com or at the LSP Box Offices. The first 10,000 fans will receive a Sporting Kansas City tumbler courtesy of match sponsor Providence Medical Center.
The NBC Sports Network will nationally televise the contest with the commentary team of J.P. Dellacamera and Brian Dunseth calling the action. The match will also air live locally on Sports Radio 810 WHB, with on-site coverage from 3-7 p.m. CT.
Sunday's match marks the only meeting of the season between Sporting Kansas City and San Jose, with the Western Conference visitors holding a one-game lead in the all-time series (20-19-7). However, Sporting Kansas City have won their last eight home games against the Earthquakes in all competition and are 15-7-1 at home in the regular season all-time series.
Sporting Kansas City enters the contest after snapping a three-game losing streak with 2-2 draw at the Colorado Rapids last week. Forward Teal Bunbury, making his first start since the season opener, scored twice in the game's opening 14 minutes for his fourth career multi-goal game in MLS play.
The home side will be bolstered by the return of midfielders Roger Espinoza, who served a one-game suspension for a red card received at Chicago, and Graham Zusi, who spent the week with the U.S. Men's National Team at their training camp in Orlando.
San Jose is coming off a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory at the LA Galaxy on Wednesday that pushed the club into first place in the West. Manager Frank Yallop's team leads the League in goals (26), assists (28), shots (204) and shots on goal (71).
The Earthquakes will be without forward Chris Wondolowski, the League's leading scorer this season and each of the last two years, due to international duty and will also be missing forward Steven Lenhart while he serves a mandatory one-game suspension for caution accumulation.
In their absence, forward Alan Gordon is expected to step in and will look to extend his recent run of form with goals in each of his past three appearances. Defender Steven Beitashour and midfielder Marvin Chavez lead the team with five assists, while Jon Busch has played every minute in goal this season.
