Game Day Preview: Pats in Search of Back to Back Wins Saturday

The Regina Pats (1-4-0-0) return to home ice on Saturday to take on the Brandon Wheat Kings (3-0-1-0). Puck drop is at 7 p.m. at the Brandt Centre. The Pats are coming off their first win of the season on Friday night, 6-5 over the Swift Current Broncos. The Wheat Kings lost for the first time on Friday, 3-2 in overtime in Moose Jaw. Tonight is the first of eight meetings between the Pats and Wheat Kings in 2018-19. Tonight's game can be heard with Bennett Dunlop Ford Pats Hockey starting at 6:35 p.m. on 620 CKRM .

The Lead Up: Pats outlast Broncos for first win Friday

The Regina Pats picked up their first win of the season on Friday night, 6-5 over the Broncos in Swift Current. The Pats were down 1-0 in the first, but Duncan Pierce tied it up on a wraparound for his second of the year and then Jake Leschyshyn scored on the powerplay, his second, and it was 2-1 Regina after 20 minutes. In the second, the Broncos tied it up again, but with 17 seconds left in the period, Austin Pratt put home a rebound for his first and Regina led 3-2 after two. In the third, the Broncos tied the game for a third time thanks to Ethan Regnier, 47 seconds in and it was 3-3. The Pats scored three straight after that, Robbie Holmes with his second, Austin Pratt his second and Jake Leschyshyn with his third to lead 6-3. The Broncos got two back on the powerplay, but Regina held on late for a 6-5 win. The Pats went two for six on the powerplay and two for five on the penalty kill. Austin Pratt, Nick Henry and Aaron Hyman led the offence with three points each while Dean McNabb made 24 saves in his first start for the Pats.

First WHL Points

Pats forward Carter Massier and defenceman Nikita Sedov recorded their first career WHL points on Friday in Swift Current. Massier, a product of Peace River, Alberta picked up an assist on Duncan Pierce's first period goal to tie the game 1-1. Sedov, from Tyumen, Russia got his first assist in the second period when Austin Pratt scored his first of the season to make it 3-2.

Pratt Breaks Out

Pats forward Austin Pratt tied a career high with three points in Swift Current on Friday. The 19-year-old from Lakeville, Minnesota scored his first two goals of the year in the win and added an assist. Pratt had a strong preseason with three goals and an assist and has followed that up with two goals and two assists in the first four games of the regular season.

Hyman Leading the Way

Pats overage defenceman Aaron Hyman put up three assists on Friday night and now leads the team with seven points through five games. The Calgary native has recorded at least a point in all but one game this season, scoring twice and adding five assists. His seven points are tied for seventh among all WHL defenceman, his two goals are tied sixth.
