Missouri River Otters News Release
River Otters Most Recent Game: Saturday, March 11: Missouri 5, Muskegon 2
Brenden Cuthbert stole the show with a 44-save performance as the Missouri River Otters dominated the Muskegon Fury 5-2 at the L.C. Walker Arena.
Cuthbert stopped all 12 first-period Fury shots and the River Otters took a 1-0 lead when Tyler Butler took a power-play pass from Frank Littlejohn and hammered a slap-shot top shelf for his sixth goal of the season. Missouri completely dominated the Fury during the second period. They extended the lead to 2-0 when Paul Falco streaked up the right wing, cut in front of the net, and beat Kevin Lapointe with high wrister. The River Otters made it 3-0 six minutes later when Littlejohn fired a shot behind Lapointe. They weren't done yet, however, as Falco picked up his second goal of the period off a great pass from Mark Odut. David Wrigley made it interesting with two goals in the third period for Muskegon, but Odut capped his three-point night with an empty netter to put the nail in the coffin.
Mallards Most Recent Game: Saturday, March 11: Quad City 5, Fort Wayne 2
Chad Woollard continued his stellar season with a hat-trick as the Quad City Mallards defeated the Fort Wayne Komets 5-2 at the MARK.
Woollard opened the scoring eight minutes into the first period but the Komets responded 20 seconds later with an Andrew Luciuk goal that sent the game tied into the second period. Woollard took control of the contest in that second period, scoring the lone two goals to put his squad up 3-1. Rafal Martynowski added twin tallies in the final period to seal the deal for the Mallards. Jason Tapp made 46 saves in victory while Kevin St. Pierre made ten saves in defeat.
Most Recent Meeting: Sunday, March 5: Quad City 3, Missouri 1
Chad Woollard scored a goal and added an assist as the Quad City Mallards defeated the Missouri River Otters 3-1 at the Family Arena.
Quad City scored on their first shot of the game when Matt Radoslovich beat Brenden Cuthbert with a shot 56 seconds into the first period. The River Otters struck back six minutes later when Jeff Brown rammed home the rebound of a Mark Odut shot. Six minutes later the Mallards regained the lead when Chad Woollard powered a one-timer behind Cuthbert. The lone goal in the second period came off the stick of Mallards forward Rafal Martynowski to put his team up 3-1 headed to the final period. Neither team scored in the third period. Jason Tapp made 17 saves in the victory while Cuthbert made 25 saves in defeat.
