Giant Slaying

The Winterhawks are back in B.C. to take on the Vancouver Giants tonight. Portland has taken all three meetings in the season series thus far, but Vancouver enters tonight's tilt with wins in five straight and points in nine (8-0-1-0) - including wins over top competition like Everett, Prince George and Victoria in that span.

Vancouver's resurgence has come on the back of stellar play from Brett Mirwald in net, who has appeared in each game of their nine-game heater. The Saskatoon, Sask. native has not allowed more than three goals in a game in that span and has posted 30+ saves in six of the nine outings. Up front, Ty Halaburda (46 points) and Calgary Flames prospect Jaden Lipinski (45 points) have spearheaded Vancouver's attack this season, while rookie Aaron Obobaifo leads the team with two points against the Winterhawks this year.

One More Point

The beat goes on for the Hawks after another dominant win on Tuesday, and now the team finds itself just one point away from sealing its spot in the WHL Playoffs for the 13th consecutive campaign. A Winterhawks victory or OT loss tonight would do the trick, as would any Tri-City loss in Spokane this evening.

Milestone Watch

Marcus Nguyen headlines our milestone watch tonight as he is set to skate in WHL game #200! The 19-year-old has established himself as a versatile, reliable player throughout the Winterhawks' lineup, putting his speed, skill and tenacity on display each night as he's become a fan favorite in the Glass Palace. Originally drafted in the 11th round, #234 overall, of the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft, Nguyen has logged three consecutive 40-point seasons en route to a stout 129 points (64G, 65A) through the first 199 games of his career, and is on pace for career-best totals in all three scoring categories this season. Congrats, Marv!

Elsewhere a handful of scoring milestones appear on the horizon as Gabe Klassen sits two points shy of 250 in his illustrious career, James Stefan needs two more goals to hit 100 and Nate Danielson is five points away from 200. All three are well within reach, especially after each player posted multiple points on Tuesday. Keep an eye on these guys as they approach some pretty special numbers in their careers!
