High Five!

After returning to the Kia CHL Top 10 last week at #7, another three-win week propelled the Hawks up to #5 behind Winnipeg, Edmonton, Everett and Charlottetown (QMJHL). With points in 14 straight and seven wins in a row, Portland's play has also seen them climb the WHL standings, usurping Seattle for second in the U.S. Division and third in the Western Conference.

It's been an impressive run, but nothing's done yet - with more than 20 games to play, playoff seeding and regular-season titles remain on the line. Keeping focus will be key as Portland heads down the stretch of this year.

Stellar in the crease

Taylor Gauthier's start to life in Portland couldn't have gone much smoother. Seven wins in seven starts and a league-best .945 save percentage during the month of January saw him earn Goaltender of the Week honors twice and the League's Goaltender of the Month award as well.

Meanwhile, Dante Giannuzzi continues to be a rock between the pipes. Since Dec. 18, #31 is 6-0-0-1 in net for the Hawks, including a standout 39-save performance to help Portland knock off Seattle on the road last week.

Regardless of who gets the nod in net, the Winterhawks know they can rely on whoever suits up on a given night.

Hitting the road

Looking ahead, Portland heads north for eight games this month, half of which come against the Spokane Chiefs. It's a stiff test for a team that has created quite the identity on home ice - the Club's 16-5-3-1 record at the VMC speaks for itself - but after thriving in three consecutive three-game weekends in January, the Hawks clearly have the tools to succeed.

The latest test starts tonight in Tri-City, where Portland looks to improve its 1-1-0-1 at Toyota Center.
