Game Day Build-Up: Senators vs. Marlies, March 23
March 23, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Belleville Senators News Release
The set-up
The Belleville Senators will open a busy few days tonight against the Toronto Marlies as they start a 3-in-3 tonight.
Belleville (24-36-2-3) were victorious last time out, claiming a 4-3 win over the Utica Comets on Saturday. With 11 games left in its inaugural season, the Sens remain mathematically alive in the playoff race but sit 19 points back of Utica.
Toronto (45-17-1-1) sit atop the Eastern Conference, and North Division, as they look set to make a deep run for the Calder Cup. The Marlies 45 wins is an AHL high.
Friday's game marks the final visit of the Marlies this season to the Yardmen Arena.
Roster notes
The Senators signed Boston Leier to an ATO for the remainder of the 2017-18 season Thursday and he is set to make his professional debut tonight.
Belleville also received a boost as Pat Sieloff, Erik Burgdoerfer and Jim O'Brien were reassigned from Ottawa although forward Filip Chlapik was recalled.
Danny Taylor or Marcus Hogberg will man the posts for the Sens while Kyle Flanagan, Mike Blunden and Francis Perron are out for Belleville.
Previous history
Belleville is 2-6-0-1 against the Marlies this season and have won just one of five contests at the Yardmen Arena. Toronto claimed a 3-1 win against the Sens on March 16 in their last match-up. Belleville last beat Toronto on Feb. 16.
Who to watch
O'Brien returns to the Senators line-up for the first time since Feb. 24 after a 10-game stint with Ottawa. O'Brien is second in scoring for Belleville with 13 goals and 28 points in 55 contests.
Marlies defenceman Justin Holl leads the team in points by a blue liner with 25 (seven goals) and he's also found success against Belleville notching six points (two goals) in seven games.
Where to watch
Friday's game starts at 7pm and can be seen live on www.theahl.com through their AHL Live application (subscription required) or at Shoeless Joe's in Belleville.
The radio broadcast on CJBQ 800 begins at 6:50pm with Jack Miller on the call and David Foot on colour.
