Phantoms Clinch Berth in 2018 Calder Cup Playoffs

Lehigh Valley, Pa. - Calder Cup Playoffs...here we come! It's time to Rally the Valley!

As a result of this evening's 5-4 overtime decision at the Providence Bruins coupled with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers' 4-1 regulation setback at the Syracuse Crunch, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, proud AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, clinched one of 16 coveted spots in the 2018 Calder Cup Playoffs. In the midst of their 22nd season overall, this is the 12th playoff appearance for the Phantoms and the club's second straight postseason berth in Lehigh Valley.

Through 21 incredibly successful campaigns, the Phantoms have captured two Calder Cup Championships (1998, 2005) and carry a 58-52 overall mark in 110 career AHL postseason outings.

With tonight's outcome, Lehigh Valley became the first team in the Atlantic Division and just the AHL's third club to secure a berth in the 2018 Calder Cup Playoffs. The Phantoms are in the midst of an incredibly impressive campaign having compiled a 42-16-4-5 overall record to date as they continue to pace the Atlantic Division in wins (42) as well as leading the entire AHL in standings points (93).

The Phantoms are coming off an incredibly successful third campaign in the Lehigh Valley playing at the state-of-the-art PPL Center in which the team posted its highest win total (48) and highest standings point total (101) in more than a decade. Established in 1996, the Phantoms spent their first 13 seasons at the Spectrum in Philadelphia before re-locating to Glens Falls, New York in 2009 where the team spent the next five seasons as the Adirondack Phantoms. A new era of Phantoms hockey began in the fall of 2014 when the Lehigh Valley Phantoms began play at the state-of-the-art PPL Center. Through 21 incredibly successful campaigns, the Phantoms have qualified for the Calder Cup Playoffs 11 times and have captured two Calder Cup Championships (1998, 2005), two Conference Championships (1998, 2005), two Regular Season Titles (1996-97, 1997-98) and four Division Championships (1996-97, 1997-98, 1998-99, 2003-04).
