Game Day Build-Up: Senators vs. Marlies, March 16
March 16, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Belleville Senators News Release
The set-up
The Belleville Senators return to action after a five-day break for the latest instalment of the Battle of Ontario as the Toronto Marlies visit the Yardmen Arena.
Belleville (23-35-2-3) are coming off of a huge come from behind win against the Laval Rocket last Saturday as they continue to try and keep their faint playoff hopes alive.
Toronto (43-16-1-1) hold the best record in the AHL and have already clinched their spot in the Calder Cup playoffs.
Roster notes
The Senators made a splash in the NCAA free agent pool agreeing to terms with forward Ryan Scarfo on an ATO for the remainder of the season, as well as an AHL contract for 2018-19.
Belleville will also get some help on the blue line as the Ottawa Senators have reassigned defenceman Erik Burgdoerfer to the AHL.
No word on who will start for the Sens tonight with head coach Kurt Kleinendorst having the option to choose between Danny Taylor and Marcus Hogberg.
Max McCormick and Jim O'Brien are still with Ottawa while Kyle Flanagan, Francis Perron and Christian Jaros have yet to return for the Senators.
Previous history
The Senators have won two of its previous match-ups with the Marlies and are 2-5-0-1 this year against their in-province rival. The Marlies claimed a 4-1 decision in their last match-up on March 4.
