
Special Teams Sink Comets in Loss to Laval

Utica, N.Y. - The Utica Comets fell to the Laval Rocket by a score of 4-2 Friday night at the Adirondack Bank Center.
Cam Darcy put the Comets up 1-0 with 6:31 to go in the first period, tipping a pass from Patrick Wiercioch past Rocket goaltender Zachary Fucale. Michael Chaput also picked up an assist on the play.
Kerby Rychel tied the game at one with a power play goal 53 seconds into the second period. Chris Terry and Matt Taormina had the assists. Niki Petti gave Laval a 2-1 lead six minutes later, burying a rebound past Thatcher Demko. Tom Parisi and Terry were credited with the assists. Eric Gelinas extended the lead to 3-1 with a shorthanded goal at the 14:52 mark of the second period. Markus Eisenschmid collected the assist.
Terry scored a power play goal 1:17 into the third period to make it 4-1 Laval. Rychel and Gelinas collected the assists. Tony Cameranesi brought the Comets to within two three minutes later. Darcy tallied the assist. Laval snuffed out the Comets' late comeback attempt to secure the win.
Demko finished with 19 saves and his record falls to 20-11-6. Fucale stopped 30 shots. His record improves to 10-5-0. The Comets power play went 0-4, while the penalty kill allowed three goals in six attempts.
The Comets return to the ice tomorrow night against the Belleville Senators. Puck drop at Yardmen Arena is at 7 p.m. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHL Live.
