Game Day Build-Up: Senators at Crunch, November 2

November 2, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Belleville Senators News Release

The set-up

The Belleville Senators make their first visit to Syracuse to battle the Crunch Friday as the two teams renew their North Division rivalry.

Belleville (5-5-0-0) is once again back at .500 after a tight 2-1 win over Laval Wednesday where Filip Gustavsson made 18 third period saves to preserve the win. The victory jumped Belleville into third place in the North but sit five points behind Cleveland for the division lead.

Syracuse (2-5-0-0) has gotten off to a slow start but at the same time, have also played the least amount of games in the Eastern Conference. The Crunch have lost its last three contests and find themselves in eighth spot in the North.

Belleville is fifth in the Eastern Conference on the power play (23.3%) while Syracuse sit in seventh at 21.6%.

Roster notes

Belleville has had a large roster turnover over the last 24 hours as Mike McKenna, Erik Burgdoerfer and Nick Paul were recalled by Ottawa. On the contrary, they did receive some help as Christian Wolanin and Jack Rodewald were reassigned back to the AHL.

With Ottawa's goaltending situation a little unclear, it's rippled down to Belleville as Filip Gustavsson is the only active goalie on the roster right now.

Marcus Hogberg and Logan Brown didn't travel to Syracuse as they remain out injured.

Previous history

Belleville only won two of eight contests against the Crunch last season, one of which was the historic home opener. The Crunch won all four contests in Syracuse last season as Belleville seeks its first win in New York.

Who to watch

Sens forward Paul Carey continues to show his skill as he's collected assists in the last three contests and has three points in four games this season.

Rookie forward Alex Barre-Boulet leads Syracuse in scoring this year with five points (two goals) in seven games this year. Barre-Boulet was unsigned out of the NHL draft and only penned an entry-level contract in March after standout season with Blainville-Boisbriand in the QMJHL.

Where to watch

Wednesday's game starts at 7:00pm and can be seen on AHLTV. Fans can also watch tonight's contest at Shoeless Joe's in Belleville.

The radio broadcast on CJBQ 800 begins at 6:50pm with Jack Miller on the call.
