WINNIPEG, Manitoba - The Chicago Wolves dominated the first period and the final 10 minutes, but the Manitoba Moose owned the middle for a 5-4 victory over the Wolves on Friday night at Bell MTS Place.
Forwards Gage Quinney and Daniel Carr scored early power-play goals for the Wolves (6-3-0-1), but the Moose reeled off three consecutive goals to take control early in the third period before Wolves forward Brooks Macek and defenseman Nic Hague scored in the final six minutes to make it close.
Chicago opened the scoring with Quinney's power-play goal at 11:06 of the first. Erik Brännström worked the puck over to Carr, who ripped a shot from the top of the right circle that banged off the post. Quinney waited in the perfect spot just outside the crease and tapped home the rebound for a 1-0 lead.
Manitoba (6-4-0-0) took the lead early in the second period as Michael Spacek and C.J. Suess registered power-play goals three minutes apart. The Wolves answered with Carr's power-play goal at the 9:21 mark of the second, but 2018 Rookie of the Year Mason Appleton swatted home a rebound at 10:25 to regain a 3-2 lead for the Moose.
Manitoba added goals from Seth Griffith and Luke Green in the opening six minutes of the third. Wolves head coach Rocky Thompson pulled goalie Oscar Dansk with 10 minutes left to give his team an advantage, which led to goals by Macek and Hague to pull within 5-4 with 3:43 to play.
Twenty-year-old rookie Mikhail Berdin (3-0-0) stopped 32 shots to earn the win. Oscar Dansk (3-1-1) posted 15 saves for the Wolves.
