LAST TIME OUT: Andrew Barbosa fired eight shutout innings while allowing only one hit and the B-Mets hammered the Erie SeaWolves, 8-1, Sunday night at NYSEG Stadium. Jayce Boyd went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI, Amed Rosario was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Maikis De La Cruz went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles. The B-Mets snapped a four-game losing streak with the win.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Mickey Jannis will make the start for the B-Mets, his third since returning from St. Lucie (High-A). Jannis last threw on Wednesday in Altoona and retired the first 11 hitters he faced but eventually surrendered seven runs on seven hits over six innings to take the loss. He makes his fourth start against the SeaWolves, having gone 1-1 with a 3.50 ERA. Jannis carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning in his first start of the season on 4/14 in Erie.
ERIE STARTER: RHP Artie Lewicki will start for the SeaWolves, his first career outing against the B-Mets. Lewicki's last start came on Wednesday against Akron and he took a no-decision with seven innings of one-run ball. He held the Rubber Ducks to three hits and struck out seven as the SeaWolves won, 3-2, in 13 innings.
FINISH STRONG: After going 2-for-32 over nine games from 8/19-29, Jayce Boyd has now recorded hits in each of his last six and has tallied four consecutive multi-hit games.
Dî=89Jî=80 VU ALL OVER AGAIN: Mickey Jannis will start the B-Mets season finale for the second consecutive season. Jannis started the regular season finale against Altoona in 2015 and did not make it out of the first inning. He was pulled after 0.2 innings with three runs having scored on two hits and four walks. The B-Mets eventually won that game, 8-6, on a walk-off home run by Vince Belnome in the 12th inning.
A CAREER YEAR: Dominic Smith went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI on Sunday, pushing his RBI total to 91. Smith has set career-highs in RBI and home runs (14) in 2016 and was named the B-Mets MVP before Sunday's game.
MOWED 'EM DOWN: Andrew Barbosa fired eight one-hit innings on Sunday, the seventh time a B-Met had pitched at least eight this season. In his final two starts of 2016, Barbosa allowed only one hit over 15 shutout innings.
FOR THE BATTING TITLE: Entering the final day of the regular season, Phillip Evans is second to Portland's Aneury Tavarez in the race for the Eastern League batting title. Evans is batting .330 and Tavarez sits at .335. A 3-for-5 day would raise Evans' average to .333 while a 1-for-5 day would drop Tavarez to .333 for a tie for the title.
A NEW CHAPTER: Binghamton plays its final game as the Binghamton Mets on Monday as it finishes its 25th season. Beginning in 2017, the Binghamton franchise will be know as either the Bullheads, Gobblers, Rocking Horses, Rumble Ponies, Stud Muffins or Timber Jockeys. The new name will be announced in October.
