Game 1 in Kitchener Tonight
March 23, 2012 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack will open their 2012 Ontario Hockey League playoff schedule on the road this evening when they travel to Kitchener to square off against the Rangers in game one. The Attack will ice twelve players with post season experience, ten of which were a part of last years Championship team, not including Captain and leading scorer Michael Halmo who will be serving his third game of a ten game suspension and forward Jarrod Maidens who scored the most important playoff goal in Owen Sound Attack history.
Head Coach Greg Ireland will not have to look far in goal to find playoff experience. Overage goaltender Scott Stajcer has suited up in 17 post season games, compiling an 8-7-0-2 record to go along with a 3.47 GAA and .908 save percentage and has Memorial Cup game experience. 18 year old Jordan Binnington has appeared in 7 playoff contests, sporting a 4-2 record, 3.21 GAA and .897 save percentage, including victories in games 6 and 7 of last years OHL Finals. Binnington was also named the 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup Top Goaltender after finishing the tournament with a 1-1-1 record, 1.42 GAA and .951 save percentage.
The Rangers will counter with either John Gibson or Franky Palazzese. Both goaltenders were among league leaders in both goals against average and save percentage, providing the Rangers with a solid one-two punch in goal. Tobias Rieder leads the offensive charge for the Rangers having averaged 1.40 points per game and was the only Ranger to tally 40 goals. The Rangers depth is their key as they have 6 players who tallied 40 or more points in their lineup.
Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarter Finals will go on Saturday evening at the Bayshore in Owen Sound. Plenty of good seats are available and can be purchased by visiting the Attack Box Office at the Bayshore, by calling (519) 371-7452 or online at www.attackhockey.com .
Game time on Saturday evening is 7:30pm.
