Spirit Take Game 1 Over Sting 5-1

On Friday night the Saginaw Spirit traveled to Sarnia's RBC Centre to take on the Sting in game one of their best of seven series. Saginaw would defeat Sarnia by the score of 5-1 . Scoring for Spirit was spread out amongst four players: Bandon Saad, Carlos Amestoy, Brandon Archibald and Garret Ross.

The first period was scoreless until 19:19 when Sarnia's Alex Galchenyuk would score on the power play for Sarnia, making the score 1-0.

5:32 into the second period, Brandon Saad would score to tie the game at 1-1. Moments after Saad's goal, Carlos Amestoy would tap one in during a flurry in front of the net to put the Spirit in the lead by one goal. Brad Walch and Justin Kea would assist Amestoy's goal. Saad would score his second goal of the game at 11:12 of the period to give the Spirit a two goal lead. The Spirit scoring continued at19:44 when Brandon Archibald would score on a snipe from the point on the power play. Michael Fine would assist Archibald's goal. The Spirit would head into the second intermission with a 4-1 lead over the Sting.

Saginaw would come out and continue their scoring in the third with a goal just 1:53 in, scored by Garret Ross. Sarnia would not be able to get anything going offensively in the third as the Spirit took game 1 of the series by the score of 5-1.
