Peoria Chiefs News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - The Peoria Chiefs got blasted out of Parkview Field Thursday night by the unlikeliest of home run hitter as Jonathan Galvez, the number nine hitter, crushed three homers to lead the Fort Wayne TinCaps to an 8-3 win. The loss drops the Chiefs to 10-14 on the half and 48-45 on the season. Galvez, a .232 hitter, homered more times on Thursday night than he had in his first 77 games of the season combined.

The Chiefs jumped out on top for the second night in a row with an unearned run in the second inning. With two outs Jonathon Mota doubled down the left-field line off TinCaps starter Matt Lollis. Jae-Hoon Ha hit a grounder to second and Mota scored when Jeudy Valdez threw wild to first base. Lollis, who joined the TinCaps from Short-Season A Eugene earlier in the day, got out of the inning as Luis Flores popped up to first.

Peoria's lead was short-lived as Fort Wayne jumped all over Ryan Searle in the bottom of the second. With one down Everett Williams singled and Dan Meeley followed with a single on a 0-2 pitch. That brought Galvez to the plate and he slammed his third homer of the season over the 376-foot sign in left-center to put the TinCaps up 3-1.

The Chiefs tied the game in the third against Lollis. Hak-Ju Lee doubled with one out and scored on a single to right by Logan Watkins. Matt Cerda singled to center and advanced to second as Watkins was thrown out trying to steal third. Justin Bour drew a walk and DJ Fitzgerald tied the game 3-3 with a single back up the middle.

Galvez led off the fourth inning and homered to nearly the exact same spot on against Searle to put the TinCaps up 4-3. The homer in his second at-bat of the night doubled his total on the season from his first 271 at-bats.

After the Chiefs left two on against Lollis in the fifth, Galvez homered again. His third blast of the game led off the sixth against reliever Larry Suarez and put Fort Wayne up 5-3. The TinCaps finished the scoring with a two run single by Edinson Rincon in the seventh and a RBI-single by Jason Hagerty in the eighth.

Searle (4-5) was hit hard for the third start in a row. He allowed four runs on six hits over four innings of work while also walking four. Suarez allowed one run on two hits over two innings while striking out three. Jordan Latham gave up the final three runs on five hits over two innings while striking out two.

Casey's General Store Player of the Game - Logan Watkins (CF) - Watkins picked up his third straight multi-hit game with singles in the third and fifth innings. He also drew a walk, stole a base and drove in his 23rd run of the season.
