Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Thursday's game between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and the West Michigan Whitecaps was suspended by rain and severe weather in the bottom of the fifth inning. Wisconsin was leading 2-0 when a thunderstorm rolled into the area and forced a suspension.

Wisconsin got a pair of RBI singles in the top of the second inning to take the early lead. Hunter Morris singles and stole second base at the beginning of the frame. One out later Cameron Garfield singled to right and Morris scored. There was a bobble on the play by right fielder Avisail Garcia and Garfield took second. Joey Paciorek, in his first start for the Rattlers since April 28, singled in Garfield and Wisconsin had a 2-0 lead.

Rattlers starter Del Howell allowed one hit through the first four innings. But, in the fifth he gave up consecutive singles to Garcia and Michael Rockett and walked Clay Jones on four pitches to load the bases. Luis Alberto Sanz was at the plate and had just taken ball one from Howell when two large streaks of lightning flashed across the sky. Home plate umpire Jeff Klinghoffer waved both teams off the field as thunder accompanied the grounds crew's scramble to get the tarp on the field.

The rain started falling 15 minutes later and it did not let up.

The game will be resumed on Friday at 6:00pm CDT from the point at which it stopped. The regularly scheduled game, which is set for seven innings, will be started 30 minutes after the conclusion of the suspended game.

The starters of the second game on Friday night were scheduled to be Damon Krestalude (2-5, 5.53) for the Timber Rattlers and Giovanni Soto (5-6, 2.55) for West Michigan there was no word on if those two were still scheduled to go in the 7-inning game.
