
Bandits Slug Past Hot Rods 8-7

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The River Bandits used four home runs Thursday night at Bowling Green Ballpark to top the Hot Rods for the second straight night, 8-7.
Just three pitches into the game, the Bandits were already holding a 1-0 lead when Luis Mateo (2) hit a 1-1 pitch out for the River Bandits first run of the game. Later in the inning, with two outs Matt Adams (14) and Freddy Parejo (6) homered back-to-back to give Quad Cities the early three-run lead.
The Hot Rods battled back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at five. Bandit starter Joe Kelly was strong through the first four innings but faced only two batters in the fifth, both reached, and both came home to score. He didn't record a decision after working four-plus innings and allowing three runs on four hits. He also walked four and struck out three.
Quad Cities answered right back with two runs in to top of the sixth. They added one more important insurance run in the seventh on a solo homer by C.J. Beatty (4).
Mateo led the way offensively for the Bandits with three hits and a pair of RBI including the home run. Alan Ahmady also chipped in with a pair of hits to raise his average to .378.
Michael Blazek (5-3) pitched two innings in relief and allowed two runs on one hit but earned the win. Aaron Terry (12) was able to hang on for the save in the ninth by retiring all three batters he faced. Alexander Colome started for Bowling Green but didn't record the decision after allowing five runs on seven hits over four innings. Jake Sullivan (2-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up two runs on three hits over two innings.
The Bandits go for the series sweep tomorrow night. They will send righty Eric Fornataro to the mound against Bowling Green lefty Kyle Lobstein. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
