Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

FARGO, N.D. -- Blake Gailen launched a two-run homer in the ninth but it wasn't enough as the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks held on for a 6-4 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs in front of 3,935 fans at Newman Outdoor Field Friday night.

Lincoln scored all four of its runs in the final two innings but were unable to score after mounting serious threats in the prior two frames. Gailen was thrown out at the plate by Redhawks left fielder Jason James to end the sixth inning and the 'Dogs were held without a run after loading the bases with one out in the top of the seventh.

The Redhawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead through five innings, scoring one in the first, two in the third and one in the fifth on a solo home run by James.

Alex Maestri (1-3) pitched seven innings, allowing five runs on five hits while walking four and striking out three to take the loss. Oliver Odle (2-3) went 6 1/3 innings, allowing no runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking two to earn the win.

Gailen finished the night 3-for-5 and has now hit three home runs in his last five games. Phil Hawke went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored and Jon Nelson was 2-for-4 with an RBI double.

The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Saltdogs.

The teams meet again Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. for game two of the three-game series. Lindsay Gulin (1-4) is scheduled to pitch for the 'Dogs against Jake Laber (2-0) for the Redhawks.

The Saltdogs return home to Haymarket Park Monday, June 6 for a week-long homestand against the Winnipeg Goldeyes and defending champion Shreveport-Bossier Captains. For team and ticket information please call 402-474-BALL or visit www.saltdogs.com.
