Gwinnett Stripers News Release

The Lead: The Durham Bulls defeated the Gwinnett Braves 3-1 on Tuesday night at Coolray Field. G-Braves starting pitcher James Parr (0-1) achieved a career milestone by striking out the 500th batter in his Minor League career. It was not enough, however, as Bulls starter Jeremy Hellickson (2-0) shut down the G-Braves offense. Gwinnett (2-4) is tied for second place in the International League South with the Norfolk Tides. Durham (4-2) remains in a first place tie with the Charlotte Knights.

It Was Over When: Hellickson proved why Baseball America ranked him the No. 1 prospect in the Tampa Bay organization and 18th in all of baseball. Hellickson went 6.1 innings and struck out 7 G-Braves for his second victory of the season.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Parr struck out 2 batters and gave up 2 R/ER in 5.2 IP in the losing effort.

At the plate: Mitch Jones continued his hot streak at the plate, becoming the first G-Brave to get 3 hits in a game this season in a 3-for-4 performance at the dish. Joe Thurston had the team's lone RBI, while Barbaro Canizares extended his team-high hitting streak to 5 games with a 2-for-4 performance.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: In just over 6 innings, Hellickson allowed just 4 hits and 1 R/ER while walking just one to match his 7 K's.

At the plate: Dan Johnson finished 2-for-4 with his second home run of the season, a sixth-inning shot off of Parr.

On Deck: Gwinnett hosts Durham in the final game of a three-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Coolray Field. G-Braves RHP Chris Resop (0-1, 2.45 ERA) is scheduled to face LHP Heath Phillips (0-0, 5.79 ERA) of the Bulls.
