Norfolk Tides News Release
The Charlotte Knights pounded out 16 hits in a 6-1 win over the Tides Tuesday night, sending Norfolk to its third straight loss.
The Knights collected 13 singles in the contest, as seven different players in the lineup enjoyed a multiple hit game.
Tides starter Chris Tillman (0-2) allowed one run through his first four frames before running into trouble in the fifth. The 21-year-old surrendered two hits and a walk in the inning before exiting with the bases loaded and two outs, and Knights catcher Tyler Flowers greeted reliever Andy Mitchell with a two-run single to extend Charlotte's lead to 3-0.
The Knights added three more runs in the sixth inning on a double by Brent Lillibridge and a two-run single by Josh Kroeger.
Norfolk plated its lone run of the contest in the seventh, when Michael Aubrey walked and came around to score on a groundout by Joey Gathright.
Scott Moore had two hits to lead the Tides offense, while Ryhne Hughes singled in the seventh inning to extend his hitting streak to five games.
Lucas Harrell (1-0) was impressive in picking up his first win of the campaign, as the 24-year-old Charlotte starter yielded five hits and one walk while striking out seven in six shutout innings.
The Tides will look to salvage the series in the final game of their season opening homestand Wednesday afternoon with a 12:15 contest against the Knights. Jake Arrieta (0-0, 0.00) will take the mound for Norfolk against right-hander Carlos Torres (1-0, 0.00), who was named the International League Pitcher of the Week on Monday after he struck out eight in six shutout innings of his season debut.
