Future Bright for 67's as 17 New Players Join the Family on Draft Day

OTTAWA - With the Ottawa 67's coaching staff was busy preparing for Sunday's big Game 2 against Sudbury, GM James Boyd and his team were adding 17 new players to the Barber Poles family.
On Saturday, the OHL's Priority Selection Draft was sandwiched between 67's playoff games and though the focus for the players is on the here and now, the future of the franchise got even brighter with the addition of the new draftees.
''Our target in the draft was to address some needs on defense, we have a mature defense-core who will be graduating in the next few years so we wanted to get some new blood that can develop in the system and I think we've done that," said Boyd. "I think Andre (Tourigny) has proven in the past that he is open minded about players coming into camp and he's excited with all the players that we have.
"There is a lot of time between now and training camp, a lot of time for development and a lot of time for them to grow. It'll be an exciting training camp because we definitely got players that we targeted and we're thrilled."
After selecting defenceman Jack Matier with the club's first-round pick, 21st overall, on Saturday, the club spent the rest of the day addressing future needs at all positions.
Here's how the 67's 2019 Draft Day broke now:
21st overall, 1st round: Jack Matier, D
The 6-foot-2, 174-pound Matier, who turns 16 on Monday, had 22 points, including 10 goals, in 21 games for the Minor Midget AAA Soo Thunderbirds of the Great North Midget League.
31st overall: 2nd round: Jack Beck
A Richmond Hill native, Beck put up great numbers this past season with the Toronto Marlboros Minor Midget AAA in the GTMMHL this season. The 5'11 forward had 33 goals and 41 assists for a total of 74 points in 73 games.
32nd overall: 2nd round: Brenden Sirizzotti
The first of two Whitby Wildcats that were selected by the 67's, Sirizzotti had a dynamic season, with a total of 32 goals and 61 assists for 93 points in 36 games in the ETAMMHL.
52nd overall: 3rd round: Thomas Johnston
Just like his teammate Sirizzotti, Johnston put up big time numbers for the Whitby Wildcats this season, with a total of 70 points in only 36 games.
62nd overall: 3rd round: Teddy Sawyer
The young American defenseman from the Pittsburgh area had a good year playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite U15 and U16. In 20 games with the U15 group, he had 17 points in 20 games, while still playing 31 games above his age group with the U16 side.
83rd overall: 4th round: Ranvir Gill
A local kid, Gill played with the Ottawa Jr. Senators last season in the HEOMAAA, putting up a total of 35 points in 45 games. At 15 years old, Gill stands at 6''3 and weighs 190 pounds.
98th overall: 5th round: Max Donoso
With the Windsor Jr. Spitfires this season, the 5''11 goalie kept a good goals against average of 2.02, which was the best GAA in all of the AHMMPL during the 2018-2019 season.
103rd overall: 5th round: David Burnside
Recognized for his great skating ability, Burnside put up a total of 29 points in 20 games this season for the U15 Chicago Mission.
123rd overall: 6th round: Eric Bonsteel
A right-hand shot defenseman, Bonsteel had a total of one goal and 7 assists for the Mississauga Senators Minor Midget AAA of the GTMMHL in 2018-19.
143rd overall: 7th round: Tyler Boucher
Another American selected by the 67's during this draft, Boucher played a total of 26 games with Avon Farms School, a New Jersey High School, in 2018-19. The son of ex-NHL goalie Brian Boucher scored 9 goals and 14 assists, combining for 23 points.
152nd overall: 8th round: Parker Hendsbee
A product of the Niagara North Stars, Hendsbee ended the season with 17 goals and 14 assists for 31 points in 30 games in the SCTAMM this past season.
163rd overall: 8th round: Jeremy Wilmer
A Rockville Centre, NY native, Wilmer had an outstanding season this year for the North Jersey U16 Avalanche, with a total of 23 goals and 38 assists for 61 points in 25 games.
183rd overall: 9th round: Gabriel Crete
A young local product from Gloucester, Crete played 43 games with the Navan Grads in the HEOMAAA this season, combining 21 goals and 24 assists for a total of 45 points.
203rd overall: 10th round: Easton Ryan
Another local kid, Ryan had a great rookie season in the HEOMAAA this year with the Kemptville 73's. The 5''10 winger put up 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points in 35 games.
223rd overall: 11th round: Jack Staniland
Staniland suited up for the Central Ontario Wolves Minor Midget AAA this season in the ETAMMHL, where he had 4 goals and 5 assists in 36 games. The defenseman also played 7 games in the ETAHL Midget AAA Wolves during the season.
243rd overall: 12th round: Giovanni Morneau
A local Ottawa kid, forward Giovanni Morneau played for the Rockland Nationals HEO Midget AAA team this season, putting up 21 goals and a total of 35 points in 45 games.
283rd overall: 14th round: Connor Rooney
With their last pick of the draft, the 67's selected one last local product with Nepean Raider Connor Rooney. The 6'2 16-year old had 26 points in 42 games with the Raiders this past year, in what was his rookie HEOMAAA season.
