67's Select Jack Matier with 21st Overall Selection in OHL Draft

OTTAWA - The Ottawa 67's selected defenceman Jack Matier with the club's first-round pick, 21st overall, during Saturday's OHL Priority Selection Draft.

The 6-foot-2, 174-pound Matier, who turns 16 on Monday, had 22 points, including 10 goals, in 21 games for the Minor Midget AAA Soo Thunderbirds of the Great North Midget League.

"He is a player that has a high hockey sense and he's got the ability to see beyond option #1," said 67's Assistant GM and Director of Scouting Jan Egert. "The plays he makes have purpose. He's got a big frame ... and he'll be a mainstay on the 67's blue line for his OHL career. There's a lot of potential in Jack and we're thrilled to have been able to draft him in the first round today."
