Fury FC Scores Three for a Big Three Points on the Road

August 17, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL) - Ottawa Fury FC News Release

LEESBURG, VA -After defeating newcomers to the USL Loudoun United FC by a score of 2-0 at home back in April, Ottawa Fury FC took the road to Segra Field on Saturday night. The club had a strong showing once again, defeating the Virginia side by a final score of 3-1, earning three hard-fought points in the standings.

Loudoun United FC set the tone very early on in this match, as Gordon Wild gave them an early lead with a goal in the very first minute of play. Ottawa Fury FC then went on to score three unanswered goals. Kevin Oliveira leveled things up in the 23rd minute, with Christiano François giving Ottawa the lead in the 30th minute. Carl Haworth would seal things up later in the second half, with a goal in the 74th minute.

This was Hadji Barry's first start in an Ottawa Fury FC uniform in a USL match.

Tying up with Wal Fall for top scorer on the team in this game were two Fury FC players, as both Carl Haworth and Christiano François scored their 7th goal of the season in this game, joining Fall atop of the Fury FC goal scorers.

After allowing a goal early in the first half, Callum Irving went on to stop 5 shots on targets from Loudoun United FC.

The possession was shared between both sides in this match, with Ottawa Fury FC having the slight edge of 50.6% against Loudoun's 49.4%.

Head Coach Nikola Popovic

"I think it was a bad start, however, from that moment, we were the better team and we were able to keep our composure. After their goal, it was chance after chance for us. We found a way to come back, then take the lead, and then score a third one, which was very good. Considering the number of shots on goal we had, you have to think that 3-1 is a low score for us, but it definitely was a fine performance after the first goal."
