Frostbite tied for best record in UHL

Adirondack had another perfect week picking up a possible six out of six points by beating Danbury on Wednesday and sweeping Elmira over the weekend. Wednesday the Trashers got out to the early 1-0 lead before Frank Bakrlik picked up a hat trick and Ryan Bennett added two goals of his own. Friday was the most contested battled for Adirondack as Elmira opened up a 2-0 lead before the Frostbite scored once in the second and three times within the first 2:55 of the third period. The Jackals rallied late with a goal, but it was too little. On Saturday Adirondack was not about to give up another early lead and scored four times in the opening period, two of the goals from Hugo Belanger, on their way to a 5-1 victory.

Frostbite – 6 vs. Danbury – 1
Wednesday, February 16th
The Adirondack Frostbite continued their hot play Wednesday night as the Frostbite beat the Trashers 6-1 at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Frank Bakrlik recorded a hat trick in leading Adirondack to the win. Queensbury native Ryan Bennett scored two goals, while Greg Koehler also collected his second marker as a member of the Frostbite. Goaltender Kris Tebbs was the game's second star making 21 saves. The Frostbite are now tied for the best record in the United Hockey League with a record of 34-14-6 good for 74 points. After allowing the game's first goal, Adirondack responded with six unanswered markers. Bakrlik earned a natural hat trick registering three straight goals starting at 11:54 of the first period. Bakrlik tallied his second goal of the game at 10:19 of the second period giving Adirondack a 2-1 advantage, followed by his third goal of the contest at 11:08 of the middle frame. Bennett collected two goals in the third period capping off the night.

Frostbite – 4 at Elmira – 3
Friday, February 18th
The Adirondack Frostbite dug themselves an early hole on Friday night, but just like so many great teams, they dug themselves out. The Frostbite won their 35th game of the season beating the Elmira Jackals 4-3 Friday night. Adirondack now has an eight-point lead over the Danbury Trashers for first-place in the Eastern Division. After falling behind 2-0, Adirondack started their comeback when Trevor Segstro scored at 15:30 of the second period inching the Frostbite within a single goal at 2-1. In the third period, Adirondack exploded for three goals within the first three minutes of the final frame taking over the momentum of the hockey game. Sylvain Cloutier tied the score at 2-2 just 48 seconds into the third period. J.F. Labarre gave Adirondack a 3-2 advantage at 2:32, followed by Corey Lucas' first marker of the season just 23 seconds later.

Frostbite – 5 at Elmira – 1
Saturday, February 19th
The Adirondack Frostbite remain red hot beating the Elmira Jackals 5-1 on Saturday night. The Frostbite improved their record to 36-14-6 good for 78 points and Adirondack has now won three straight games. Adirondack took control of Saturday's game in the first period and never looked back building a 4-1 advantage through the first 20 minutes of play. Hugo Belanger gave the Frostbite a 1-0 lead just 3:08 into the first period, followed by Bob Rapoza's second marker as a member of the Frostbite at 7:31 of the opening frame. After Elmira cut their deficit to 2-1, Trevor Segstro gave Adirondack a 3-1 lead at 9:03, followed by Belanger's second tally of the period at 12:29. Scott Page added a goal in the third period capping off the victory for the boys from the North Country. Newly acquired Frostbite forward and former Jackals forward Greg Koehler had a five assist night against his former team.

TEAM NOTES:
IN THE HUNT: Heading into the week the Frostbite are eight points ahead of Danbury for first in the East and are tied for the best records in the UHL. Right now the Frostbite have two games in hand on Danbury and Richmond and one on Elmira. The Frostbite are 20 points up on the third place Richmond RiverDogs and the top seed overall. Adirondack is tied for the best record in the UHL with Muskegon even though they have played the second fewest games. Adirondack has the second best home and road record in the league.

SCORING LEADERS: Heading into tonight Hugo Belanger leads the league in scoring with 79 points. Belanger is five points ahead of Richmond's David Hymovitz. Belanger also has the second best shooting percentage in the league converting 21.3% of the time and leads the league in assists with 53. The Frostbite have two other players in the top 20 in scoring: Greg Koehler is fifth with 70 points, while Sylvain Cloutier sits tied for 14th with 58 points. Belanger and Koehler sit two and three respectively in the league in power play points with 33 and 32.

GOALIE OF THE WEEK: Last week Frostbite goaltender Kris Tebbs was named the UHL Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week going 3-0, with a goals against average of 1.67. Since Frostbite starting goaltender Derek Gustafson went down with an injury, Tebbs is 10-2 with a goals against average of 2.45 and a save percentage of 91.7. He had a shutout in only his second start and a perfect 3-0 record against Danbury.

STREAKING: The Frostbite are on a three game winning streak and a season high six game home winning streak. The Frostbite are 24-2-3 when scoring first
and 25-0-0 when leading after the second period. Adirondack has the second best goals for per game average at 3.45. Belanger is on a six game point scoring streak and a five game assist streak. Frank Bakrlik has nine straight game with a penalty minute. Trevor Segstro is on a three game road goal scoring streak.

DREVITCH LEADS THE D: Scott Drevitch is now tied for the lead with Missouri's Mat Snesrud amongst defensemen in scoring with 41 points (11g, 30a). Drevitch also leads all blueliners in goals, power play goals with six and power play points with 24. He is second in the league in shots with 166.

TRICKY: Last Wednesday against Danbury, Bakrlik recorded only the second hat trick of the season for a Frostbite player. The only other one belongs to Justin Kelly who earned his against the Richmond RiverDogs. Saturday Koehler had five assists against Elmira.

RECORD BREAKING: With a shorthanded goal Wednesday against Danbury Ryan Bennett moved into a tie for third on the Adirondack (UHL) All-Time Shorthanded Goals List with four. Coach Marc Potvin is one win away from getting his professional head coaching record back to .500. Bob Rapoza is five points away from 300 on his career and seven games away from 600.

POWER PLAY POINTS: Adirondack continues to make opponents pay when they go on the power play. Coming into tonight the Frostbite have the second best power play in the league, converting 2276% of the time. Adirondack has the best road power play unit. On the penalty kill the Frostbite have worked their way up to fifth in the league, killing 84.7 percent of the time. Adirondack has allowed only three power play goals in the last seven games.

OUT OF THE BOX: Coming into the week the Frostbite are last in the league in penalty minutes averaging only 18.8 per game. Adirondack is also last in the league in minors and majors. Despite all of this Scott Page leads all rookies in penalty minutes with 184 and majors with 24.

CLOSE CALLS: This season the Frostbite have been involved in 29 games where they either won or lost by a goal. In those games the Frostbite are 19-4-6. Only six times this season have the Frostbite either won or lost by four goals or more.

TRANSACTIONS:
Wednesday, February 16th – Adirondack Frostbite signed defenseman Donald MacPherson to a Standard Player Contract.

THE UPCOMING WEEK:
Adirondack at/vs. Danbury – Wednesday February 23rd & Sunday February 27th
The Adirondack Frostbite will play its 12th & 13th of 17 games this season against the Danbury Trashers Wednesday and Sunday, nine at home and eight on the road. The Frostbite are 7-4-1 against the Trashers this season, winning their last match-up 6-1. Hugo Belanger leads Adirondack in head-to-head scoring against Danbury with 18 points (5g, 13a). Bruce Richardson leads the Trashers in head-to-head scoring against the Frostbite with 14 points (5g, 9a). Adirondack all-time is 7-4-1 against Danbury.

Adirondack at Richmond – Friday February 25th & Saturday February 26th
The Adirondack Frostbite will play its 14th & 15th of 17 games this season against the Richmond RiverDogs Friday and Saturday, nine at home and eight on the road. The Frostbite are 7-4-2 against the RiverDogs this season, falling 1-0 in their last match-up. Justin Kelly leads Adirondack in head-to-head scoring against Richmond with 16 points (7g, 9a). Mark Turner leads the RiverDogs in head-to-head scoring against the Frostbite with 16 points (5g, 11a). Adirondack all-time is 11-17-6 against Richmond.
