Countdown to Face-Off
Published on February 22, 2005 under International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
The alarm clocks have been set and both the Kalamazoo Wings and the Motor City Mechanics are ready to face-off on Education Day. Over 3,500 students from 12 schools throughout southwest Michigan will greet both teams. Today's game will be the first of three morning games for the K-Wings. Kalamazoo will host the Flint Generals next Wednesday, March 2nd in the 2nd Annual KPS Game. Later in the month of March, the K-Wings will travel to Port Huron to play in the Beacons school game.
This morning is huge game for the Kalamazoo Wings, who find themselves just two points behind the Muskegon Fury for first place in the Central Division. With Muskegon idle, a K-Wings victory would place them in a dead heat for the top spot in the division with the Fury. The K-Wings will be looking to extend their current six-game unbeaten streak. Kalamazoo's Chad Alban enters the game tied for the league lead for wins among goaltenders with 27.
Motor City concludes their three-game road swing with a trip to Wings Stadium. The Mechanics, who are 1-1-0 on the swing, are playing their best hockey of the season. Motor City comes into Kalamazoo 6-4-0 in their last 10 games. A big reason for the Mechanics recent success has been the addition of NHL'ers Sean Avery, Chris Chelios, Derian Hatcher, and Brian Smolinski. All of the Mechanics NHL players are scheduled to be in their lineup today.

On A Roll
Four K-Wings players come into today's game on extended point streaks. Defenseman Greg Labenski and Tim Turner have recorded a point in each of their last five games, which is the longest current point streak by a K-Wing. Right behind them with four-game point streaks are Andrew Luciuk and Matt Noga. The longest point streak by a K-Wings player this season is Yannick Carpentier.
The Obscure Stat of the Week
No team in the United Hockey League has more players with 10 or more points on their roster than the Kalamazoo Wings. The K-Wings have 18 players that are in double digits in points.
