Published on February 22, 2005 under International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) News Release
LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO -- Following a hearing with United Hockey League (UHL) President/CEO Richard Brosal and Vice President of Hockey Operations Brad Jones, the League has rendered the following suspensions as a result of the bounty placed on Flint Generals forward Kevin Kerr:
Motor City Mechanics head coach Steve Shannon has been suspended for the remainder of the 2004-05 season including playoffs, under Rule 33A for supplementary discipline. Mr. Shannon's suspension will commence with UHL Game #384 on Friday, February 18, 2005 versus Danbury and shall continue through UHL Game #556 on April 10, 2005 versus Elmira.
Mechanics assistant head coach John Blum is being issued a ten (10) game suspension under Rule 33A for his actions. Mr. Blum's suspension will commence with UHL Game #403 on Wednesday, February 23, 2005 versus Kalamazoo and shall continue through UHL Game #472 on Friday, March 18, 2005 versus Adirondack.
"The actions of Mr. Shannon and Mr. Blum drastically transcended the boundaries of professionalism and acceptable conduct that is expected of any coach and their players. I will not allow the credibility and stability of this league, or the game of hockey, to be threatened by the deplorable actions of a few," stated UHL President/CEO Richard Brosal.
"There is no place for this type of behavior. They have violated the confidence of everyone in this league, and with disdain for the bylaws, are deserving of such consequence," stated Vice President of Hockey Operations Brad Jones. "It is the League's intention to send a clear message to the public and those within the sport that behavior of this nature will not be tolerated."
