Fronts Fans Say Farewell to the Overage Players in Final Home Game

The Kingston Frontenacs took to the ice at Leon's Centre for one final time in the 2018-19 season on Friday night. It was their 900th time taking home ice on a Friday and it came against the same team they took the ice for the first time on a Friday, the Oshawa Generals. The two teams met on Wednesday night in Oshawa when the Generals came away with a narrow 3-2 victory. The Frontenacs wanted to return the favour, as well as send their fans home with one last win to savor in the off season.

Oshawa came out firing early in the game. Danil Antropov opened the scoring just before the TV timeout of the opening period. Ian Blacker followed that with his second goal of the season to give his team a 2-0 lead. The teams were even on the shot clock, but Oshawa led on the scoreboard after twenty minutes.

The second period was much like the first. Fronts fans saw a glimpse of what used to be when Brett Neumann scored midway through period. He held the puck on an odd man rush and beat Marshall Frappier on the short side to put the Generals ahead 3-0. Anthony Salinitri extended that lead with a rocket shot that went in just below the crossbar. Oshawa led 4-0 heading to the final period.

Brett Neumann scored his second of the game early in the third period to really seal the game. Kyle MacLean made it 6-0 with a beautiful back hand shot that went in just under the cross bar. The Frontenacs were able to break the shutout with a power play goal late in the game. Billy Constantinou missed the net with a point shot, but the bounce of the boards took a nice bounce and ended up behind Aiden Hughes. That would be the final score of the final home game of the season.

Regardless of the score, fans stayed to show their appreciation for the effort the Kingston Frontenacs put out this season. The loudest ovation of the night came for the three overage players, Ryan Cranford, Matt Hotchkiss and Mitch Byrne, who were given the three stars of the night. Matt and Ryan took a final lap around the Leon's Centre ice waving to fans and fans showed their appreciation with a standing ovation.

The Frontenacs have one game left this season. They will face the Ottawa 67's on Sunday afternoon before the off season begins. The next event will be the OHL Priority Selection which takes place on April 6. Kingston will have the first overall selection in the draft.
