67's Tie Franchise Record in 3-2 OT Loss to Petes

OTTAWA - The Ottawa 67's tied a franchise record for regular season points in a hard-fought 3-2 overtime loss to the Peterborough Petes on Friday night.

Heading into Sunday's regular season finale, the 67's have 104 points, equaling the output of the 1996-1997 edition of the team. The Barber Poles need at least a point to set a new record on Sunday, while a win would give them 50 on the season, also equaling a club record.

Friday's game was close from start to finish, with the 67's coming from behind late in the game for the second time in as many nights. This time it was Sasha Chmelevski scoring midway through the third to tie the game and force overtime, earning the first-place 67's a deserved single point.

Adam Timleck scored in the extra frame to give the Petes the victory, while Peterborough goalie Tye Austin was busy all night and finished with 45 saves. Ottawa's Cedrick Andree, who came into the game in the first when starter Mike DiPietro took a high shot and was forced out, turned in a 21-save performance.

Nick Robertson's 27th of the year gave the visiting Petes a 1-0 lead with a bit more than five minutes left in the opening period. Kevin Bahl, who tied the game for the 67's in the dying seconds of Thursday night's game, scored his sixth midway through the second period to tie the game. Zach Gallant would restore the Petes' lead a couple minutes later with his 13th of the season.

"These are tight games (and their goalie) did a good job tonight. We didn't have a great start but in the second half of the first period we built some momentum and we were better and better as the game went on. We went into the blue paint, we're getting better at that and we hit some posts but we created those chances."

Game Notes

This score could have been more lopsided in Ottawa's favour with a little luck as the 67's hit at least four posts in this one.

67's rookie forward Marco Rossi continued an impressive first OHL campaign with a pair of assists.

Sasha Chmelevski, Noel Hoefenmayer and Tye Felhaber each had six shots in the game.

The 67's were 1-for-2 on the powerplay on Friday, while Peterborough was 0-for-4.

Chmelevski's next goal will be the 100th of his OHL career.
