Frisco Moves Back Into First

August 16, 2007 - Texas League (TL1)
Frisco RoughRiders News Release

The Frisco RoughRiders moved back into sole possession of first place with a 7-3 victory over the Tulsa Drillers Thursday night. With the San Antonio Missions' game rained out, the 'Riders now hold a half game advantage over the Missions for first place in the Texas League South.

The Drillers built a 3-0 lead early in the game. Duke Sardinha scored on a wild pitch in the third and Aaron Rifkin and Jordan Czarniecki belted back-to-back home runs to lead off the fourth inning.

The 'Riders began to chip away at the Tulsa lead with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Emerson Frostad led off the inning with a double and scored on a Casey Benjamin single. Brandon Boggs pulled Frisco within one at 3-2 when he scored on a RBI groundout by Adam Fox. The RoughRiders took a 4-3 lead just one inning later when John Mayberry slammed his 14th home run into left field.

Mayberry delivered again in the eighth inning with a two run, two out single that scored German Duran and Fox to extend the lead to 6-3. Salomon Manriquez stretched the Frisco lead to 7-3 with his 16th home run of the season in the ninth.

Luis Mendoza (14-2) picked up the victory after he allowed three runs on six hits while striking out three and walking two. With the victory, Mendoza becomes the first 14 game winner in the Texas League this year. Bill White earned his first save of the season as he worked a pair of scoreless innings.

The Frisco offense was led by Mayberry who went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in the contest. Duran and Fox each collected a pair of hits in the game as well.

The 'Riders look to sweep the Drillers Friday night as they send Michael Schlact (2-0) to the mound while Tulsa counters with Samuel Deduno. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
