Fresno Grizzlies News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Nate Schierholtz of the Fresno Grizzlies has been named the Pacific Coast League's Batter of the Week after he racked up 18 hits and a .545 batting average in seven games during the period of April 30th-May 6th. During that same span, Salt Lake Bees starter Jonathon Rouwenhorst earned wins in both of his appearances and posted an ERA of 0.90 to garner Pitcher of the Week honors.

Schierholtz hit safely in all seven games in which he appeared and finished the stretch with a 3-for-4 performance on May 5th and a 4-for-5 showing on May 6th to secure his spot as Batter of the Week. During his award-winning run, the Grizzlies's outfielder raised his season batting average from .297 to .356 while chalking up six doubles, seven runs scored, and nine RBI. This is the third time in the season's first four weeks that a Fresno player has collected a League Award.

Rouwenhorst allowed just one run and struck out nine batters in ten innings of work to help the Salt Lake Bees earn victories over division rivals, Portland and Tacoma, on April 30th and May 5th, respectively. He now holds a record of 3-and-0 on the season with an ERA of 4.37. A native of Bellflower, California, Rouwenhorst was signed by the Los Angeles Angels as a non-drafted free agent in 2001 and is in his third season at the Triple-A level.
