
Beavers Fall To Big Hits, Kim

PORTLAND, Ore. - Ian Stewart was 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs, and Byung-Hyun Kim struck out eight in his fourth major league rehab appearance for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in an 11-3 victory over the Portland Beavers before 3,226 Monday afternoon at PGE Park.
The Beavers (14-16) split the series with Colorado Springs (11-17) and finished their second homestand with a 4-3 record.
Kim (1-1) went 5 2/3 innings, allowing just one run on six hits.
Joe Koshansky and Clint Barmes each had three hits for the Sky Sox, who had 17 hits as a team, the most allowed by Portland this season. Colorado Springs also got two-run homers from Alexis Gomez and Tim Olson.
Vincent Sinisi hit his sixth home run of the season and his fourth in three games, and Craig Stansberry had a stolen base, an RBI and two hits, including his league-leading 15th double, for the Beavers. Adam Shabala walked three times and scored a run, while Paul McAnulty tripled and added an RBI single in the ninth.
Gomez hit a two-run homer and Stewart added an RBI single to give the Sky Sox a 3-0 advantage in the first.
Stewart added a two-run shot to highlight another three-run inning in the third and gave the Sox a 7-0 lead with an RBI double in the fifth.
Both home runs came against Portland starter Mike Thompson (0-2), who took the loss after giving up seven runs and nine hits over 4 2/3 innings.
Colorado Springs, which was 6-6 on an extended 12-game road trip, answered Sinisi's solo homer with a pair of runs against reliever Kyle Stutes in the seventh and a two-run homer by pinch-hitter Tim Olson in the ninth.
The Beavers open a four-game series at Albuquerque Tuesday night at 5:35 p.m. (Pacific).
NOTES: Fresno's Nate Schierholtz and Salt Lake's Jonathon Rouwenhorst were the winners of the PCL Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, as announced Monday ... the Beavers were 16-14 after 30 games last season ... outfielder Josh Howard made his second pitching appearance of the season for the Beavers ... the Beavers matched their season high for runs and home runs allowed.
