Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Tim Federowicz (5) and A.J. Reed (7) go back-to-back in the 4th; Jake Marisnick (2) goes deep as well; Pitching staff allows four hits in shutout
After a walk-off loss last night, the Fresno Grizzlies (26-17) barked back with a 4-0 shutout victory over the El Paso Chihuahuas (21-22) Saturday night from Southwest University Park. The Fresno pitching staff stymied the El Paso bats, allowing four hits, two walks and punching out 10.
Andrew Thome (4-1) earned the win after one and one-third shutout innings of relief. Matt Ramsey added two innings out of the bullpen, fanning four. Chihuahuas' starter Dillon Overton (0-1) suffered the defeat after giving up four runs (earned) over five innings.
Jake Marisnick (2-for-5) gave the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead in the top of the third when he blasted a two-run shot to right-center. His second homer in consecutive days scored Antonio Nunez, who expanded his hit streak to eight games with a single.
In the top of the fourth, Tim Federowicz (1-for-2) and AJ Reed (1-for-1) nailed back-to-back home runs, extending the advantage to 4-0. It was the fifth and seventh bombs of the season for each player, respectively.
The four-run lead was enough for Brendan McCurry, who worked a clean ninth.
Grizzlies' Tyler White walked in the seventh, pushing his on-base streak to 40 games.
Both teams finish the series Sunday night from Southwest University Park. Fresno RHP Cy Sneed (3-2, 4.58) and El Paso RHP Walker Lockett (2-3, 5.12) are the probable starters. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PT.
