Frenzy at Strong Island Sound

November 18, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Cape Cod Frenzy News Release

Selden, NY: The script was all too familiar but the ending was different tonight. The Cape Cod Frenzy led early, fell behind by 19 points, and mustered a frenetic comeback, but this time it was not to be. The Strong Island Sound held on for a 116-97 win.

The Frenzy jumped out to a 29-20 lead early behind a balanced running attack and pesky defense. In the second quarter Strong Island went to work punishing the Frenzy frontline with their bruising interior players. The most notable being 6'7 255 lb Tommie "Gunzz" Eddie, from Ole Miss, who mixed up three point shooting with pounding the offensive glass. The Sound claimed a 51-47 1st half lead.

In the third quarter, the Frenzy tried all kinds of combinations to solve the Strong Island offense, but nothing seemed to work. Either the Sound scored from the perimeter or they worked for a layup in the post. The Frenzy ultimately fell behing by nineteen points at 71-52.

In the fourth quarter, Cape Cod attempted a furious rally behind their full court press and some critical three point shooting by guard Rashid Al Kaleem, cutting the deficit as close as 83-76. Al Kaleem made his professional debut tonight after suffering an ankle injury two weeks ago in practice. But it was not in the cards tonight for the Frenzy, like it was in the two previous Frenzy comeback against the Matrix and the Kebekwa.

"Rashid gave us a chance to comeback and showed tremendous confidence off the bench in his first game," stated Frenzy Head Coach Keith Clarke.

The Frenzy were led by Rob Sanders with 19 points, Jermaine Watson with 17, and Richmond Pittman with 17. Strong Island was paced by Tommie Eddie's 35 points and Gary Plummer's 27. The Frenzy fall to 2-1 and the Sound improve to 3-2.

Next up for the Frenzy is a rematch with the Montreal Matrix tomorrow, for the Frenzy opening home game at 6:05 PM at Harwich High School The game will be broadcast on www.audiosportsonline.net. Tickets are still available for the opener at 14.00 for adults and 8.00 for kids under 8.
