Bellingham Slam News Release

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Chris Weakley converted a four-point play with three seconds remaining as the Hollywood Fame defeated the Bellingham Slam, 121-119, in a lively American Basketball Association game at Whatcom Pavilion Friday night.

With Hollywood trailing 119-117 and 20 seconds remaining, the Slam defense forced the Fame into the dying seconds before Weakley launched his fouled desperation shot. After Weakley connected on his free throw attempt to put the Fame up by two, the Slam got the ball down court but were unable to get a shot up before time expired.

The Slam (1-2) led by 13 with 3:46 left in the game before Hollywood went on a 16-5 run to pull within two and set up Weakley's improbable winning shot.

Like the night before, an energetic crowd of over 800 watched both teams play very evenly in the first half, with 16 lead changes occurring in the first 24 minutes. At halftime, both teams were tied at 64.

The third quarter was a defensive battle, with both teams combining for just 48 points in the quarter. The Slam led 89-87 going into the final period, setting up Hollywood's comeback in the final period.

The Slam, sporting teal "throwback" jerseys for the first time, were led by Michael Jones, who scored 30 points. Jones led five Slam players in double figures.

Hollywood (2-1) was paced by the 20 points and 19 rebounds of Leland Anderson. Hollywood out-rebounded the Slam 52-36 in the game.

The Slam look to get their first home win next week as they welcome the Beijing Olympians to Whatcom Pavilion on Tuesday, Nov. 18. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
