Frost Heaves win home opener

The Vermont Frost Heaves withstood a furious rally by the Buffalo Silverbacks in the fourth quarter to win their Burlington home opener 110-100 at Memorial Auditorium. The Frost Heaves move to 3-1 on the season while Buffalo falls to 0-4. In a tight first half, Buffalo went up by as many as 12 points before Vermont responded to close the gap with a strong run at the end of the second quarter to head into halftime down 51-50. In the second half, the Frost Heaves outscored the Silverbacks 31-19 in the third quarter to take the lead for good on the strength of 10 points by Kevin Mickens. Leading the way for Vermont was Tyrone Levett with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Mickens was right behind with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Melvin Creddle and Aaron Cook added 12 points apiece. Johnny Tyson and Antoine Sims were the leading scorers for the Silverbacks with 25 points each. Vermont will be on the road for the next two weeks, with their next game on Nov. 25 at the Cape Cod Frenzy. The game will be broadcast on the Vermont Frost Heaves radio network WSNO 1450 AM and WJOY 1230 AM. Tickets for the Dec. 7 game in Barre against Chicago Rockstars and all Frost Heaves' games are available through the Flynn Regional Box Office by calling 802-86-FLYNN or visiting flynntix.org. Tickets are also available at 159 Main Street in Burlington and 153 Pearl Street in Essex, and at the Barre Opera House during regular box office hours.
