Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE, KY - It was supposed to be just a spot start for the left-hander, but after appearing 28 times out of the bullpen, Demetrius Bank's first start turned into a gem.

Banks (4-3) struck out a career best 11 Washington Wild Things and the Florence Freedom won 11-4 Wednesday night at Champion Window Field.

Banks' 11 punch-outs wasn't the only milestone set Wednesday as the Freedom won a franchise best ninth straight game at home.

Brad Hough kick started the offense with his first home run since June 26 to lead off the first inning. It was Hough's seventh on the season.

With two outs Jay Johnson tripled in the second to drive in Justin Pickett and make it 2-0 Florence.

The Freedom put the game away in the fourth. With four runs already in, Billy Mottram hit his seventh home run of the season against Wild Things pitching, a three run shot, to make 9-0.

Ernie Banks clubbed out his seventeenth homer of the season for the Wild Things in the top of the sixth off Banks. Ernie showcased the homer a little longer than Freedom Manager Toby Rumfield could take and the two got into a shouting match following Banks crossing home plate.

Benches being cleared ensued along with Rumfield and Washington's first base coach Jon Cahill being ejected after a few shoves were thrown. Wild Thing pitcher Andy Schindling also was ejected from game.

The sixth would the final inning for Banks as he allowed only three hits and two runs.

The Freedom (31-29) have now won four straight and host the Wild Things again Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Florence owns a 5-2 season series edge.

Thursday's are Kentucky Powerball Thirsty Thursdays at Champion Window Field. Miller Lite and Pepsi products can be had for just $1 at the concession stands. For tickets, call the Freedom at (859) 594-HITS or visit FlorenceFreedom.com.
