Washington Wild Things News Release
Florence, KY-The Washington Wild Things, (30-31) presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, fall to Florence Freedom 11-4 at Champion Window Field.
Things got off to a rocky start for Washington as Brad Hough hit a leadoff homerun off Wild Things starter Craig Snipp to put Florence up 1-0. In the bottom of the fourth with a 2-0 lead already in hand, Snipp didn't help the cause by hitting the first two batters of the inning. After pushed the lead to 6-0, Billy Mottram hit a three run shot to put the lead seemingly out of reach at 9-0.
Washington finally broke through in the sixth inning with a two run homerun from Ernie Banks (17) to claw back to a 9-2 deficit. With no love loss between the teams, the benches cleared after the Banks homerun as words were exchanged between the teams. Unable to capitalize off the momentum, the Wild Things bats remained remotely silent as they fell 11-4.
Snipp took the loss for the Wild Things putting his record at 2-2 for the year. Snipp lasted five innings giving up seven earned runs on nine hits while striking out six and walking one.
Michael Parker was able to extend his hitting streak to 24 games going 1-4 with a RBI single in the ninth. Parker's impressive streak iss one of the reasons the Wild Things are 15-9 in the month of July. Parker has awhile to go to catch Jason James of Rockford who holds the Frontier League record with a 40 game hit streak that ended earlier in the month.
The Wild Things will look to bounce back against the Freedom in the second game of this three game series Thursday. Broadcast on WJPA 95.3 FM begins at 6:55 with the first pitch coming at 7:05.
