River City Rascals News Release

ARION, IL - Joe Augustine took a no-hitter into the sixth inning as the Miners dropped the Rascals 6-2 Wednesday night at Rent One Park. Augustine scattered three hits in seven scoreless innings for Southern Illinois.

The Miners (33-27) tagged Jake Laber (7-4) for six runs and ten hits in five plus innings of work. Southern Illinois started the scoring in the second on a one out triple by Adam Hale. Hale hit a ball in right center that bounced over the head of Chris Colton for the three base hit. Former Rascal, Andrew Sweet, slapped a sacrifice fly to center to put the Miners up 1-0.

Southern Illinois tacked on more with five more over the next four frames. Jereme Milons blasted a solo home run in the third and singled home another run in the fourth. Adam Hale led off the sixth with his second home run to put the Miners ahead 5-0. Tony Roth singled later in the frame against Mike Hart to end the scoring for Southern Illinois.

River City (34-25) broke up the no-hitter against Augustine (4-3) on a Scott Houin single in the sixth. Chad Maddox followed with a ground rule double, but Augustine retired the next three in order to end the threat.

The Rascals did not take advantage of four consecutive walks in the second against Augustine, stranding the bases loaded with one out. The right-hander then went on to retire the next 12 hitters before the Houin single.

Ryan Kussmaul, making his professional debut, allowed two runs to the Rascals in the eighth. Scott Robinson doubled home Houin and then scored on a Ryan Wehrle RBI single to make it 6-2. Mike Damchuk entered and retired the final two hitters after Colton singled to snap the Rascals rally.

Six different Rascals had hits as Wehrle extended his hitting streak to a season high eight games. River City will go with Daniel Howard (3-3) tomorrow against Danny Zeffiro (3-2). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. in Marion, Illinois.
