Freedom take series

Joel Posey went seven innings, scattering six hits and allowing one run as the Florence Freedom won the rubber game of a three game series against the Evansville Otters 5-1.

The Freedom scored a run in the first inning to go up 1-0. The Otters tied the game in the bottom of the third. With Frank Scott on second base, Denver Stuckey lined a shot through the left side for a single, scoring Scott to knot the game at 1-1.

The Freedom got all the runs they needed the rest of the way in the top of the fourth. With runners on first and second and two outs, Josh Sanchez lined a double into the left-centerfield gap for a double, scoring Scott Martin and Matt Singer to make it 3-1. Wally Quigg singled home Sanchez two batters later to put the Freedom up 4-1. Florence tacked on an insurance run in the seventh.

The Otters were able to load the bases in the ninth, but Ted Rowe got Brian McKenna to ground into a double play to end the game.

Andre Simpson (2-4) took the loss for Evansville.

The Otters will start a series against the Richmond Roosters on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. with Chris Pillsbury (3-2) going for Evansville.
