Gateway Grizzlies News Release

The Windy City ThunderBolts scored a pair of runs and left the bases loaded as the Grizzlies escaped with a 5-3 win Wednesday afternoon in Crestwood, IL. The win gives the Grizzlies their first series win since they took two of three from the Mid-Missouri Mavericks June 4-6.

The Grizzlies are now 12-21. Windy City is 10-23.

The Grizzlies got a great start from newcomer Erik Dessau (1-0). Dessau, a product of Melhville High School and the University of Missouri, was making his first professional start. Dessau tossed four perfect innings before being touched for a leadoff home run in the fifth. He ended up going 6 2/3 allowing just the run on four hits. He struck out seven.

Freddy Lopez and Todd Oetting each had two RBIs. Lopez was 3-4. Oetting was 0-3, picking up RBIs on a sac fly and a groundout. Mike Breyman added an RBI for the Grizzlies.

The benches briefly cleared in the eighth inning when Ryan Sullivan was thrown out at the plate. ThunderBolts catcher Jason Alcott took exception to Sullivan's hard hit at the plate.

Ryan Hamilton earned the save, his fourth, facing the final two hitters of the game. Mike Golden pitched two innings in relief allowing two runs.

The Grizzlies head to Rockford for a three-game series with the first-place RiverHawks beginning Thursday night. Game time Thursday is 7:05 fans can tune in beginning at 6:50 on 1380 ESPN Radio and the Grizzlies radio network.
