Richmond Roosters News Release

Richmond, Indiana - Richmond split its doubleheader with Ohio Valley on Tuesday. The Redcoats took the first game 3-2, but Richmond won the second game 8-2. Matt Schweitzer and Tony Casoli pitched complete games for the Roosters in the seven inning match-ups.

The first game was a quick one hour and 38 minute contest. The Redcoats got an early lead in the first with a one out homer by Nick Batkoski to left field. They held the lead until the fourth when Tony Sanguinetti hit his 12th home run of the year to score O.J. Garza and give Richmond the edge at 2-1. The Redcoats retook the advantage in the next half inning when Jaziel Mendoza powered a home run over the wall in right, scoring Adam Tidball. Richmond could not get the offense going in the later innings and dropped the first game of the doubleheader, 3-2.

The second game turned out much better for Richmond. The Redcoats' pitchers had trouble throwing strikes and the Roosters took full advantage. Kevin White and Sanguinetti each had a RBI in the first inning and Sanguinetti scored on an error to give Richmond a 3-0 lead. Five more Roosters scored in the third. Most of the damage came on four walks issued by Ohio Valley in the inning and a couple of timely hits. Sanguinetti, Ty Herriot and Joe Rhomberg each had a RBI to boost the lead to 8-0 after only three innings. The Redcoats got a solo homer in the fourth from Nick Batkoski, his second of the doubleheader, and a solo shot in the seventh from Jud Richards to draw within six at 8-2. Casoli shut the door in the seventh however to win his fifth straight game. He gave up just four hits and fanned a season high 12 batters.

The Roosters (15-17) will finish the three-game series against Ohio Valley (17-15) on Wednesday. The game will have an early 11:05 a.m. (Indiana time) start. Matt Huskey (0-0, 5.40 ERA) will make the start for Richmond against Tom Cochran (1-3, 7.16 ERA) of Ohio Valley. Thursday will mark the beginning of a three-game road trip for Richmond in Evansville against the Otters. It will be the second time the Roosters have traveled to Evansville this season.
