Florence Y'alls News Release
AVON, OH - It's only right for a team named the Freedom to win on our country's independence day, and thanks to a strong outing from Everett Saul, the Florence Freedom downed the Lake Erie Crushers 9-1 Saturday night.
Saul (6-1) had already beaten the Crushers a week prior to his win Saturday night. He carried a no hitter with him into the fifth before Eddie Tisdale singled with two outs.
The right-handers' only blemish came in the seventh when Tisdale grounded into a double play 6-3 to score Gordon Gronkowski from third. He finished with seven strikeouts in seven innings of work with just giving up two hits.
The offense backed Saul with a four spot in the third. Brad Hough drove in the first Freedom run with a single to right. Tim Grogan followed with a two-run single and Justin Pickett drove in a run three batters later.
Hough drove in his second run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it 5-0 Florence.
With two outs in the top of the ninth Ryan Basham plated Grogan with a knock to right. Back-to-back jacks followed.
Johnny Welch (8) and Pickett each hit consecutive home runs to put the Freedom up 9-1. It was Pickett's third homer of the series giving him 12 on the season.
John Tesseyman made his Freedom debut from the bullpen and tossed two perfect innings with a strikeout to close out the Crushers.
Brent Lysander (3-1) suffered his first set back of 2009 giving up four runs and five hits in three innings for Lake Erie.
Florence (21-19) is now 3-2 against the Crushers (23-17) with the rubber match of their three game set coming at 5:05 p.m. from All Pro Freight Stadium. Follow the Freedom on the road on Classic Country 106.7 FM WNKR.
