Brett Bostelman (5-1) started for the Beach Bums and suffered his first defeat of the season despite not allowing an earned run. Bostelman threw seven innings and scattered six hits while walking one and striking out four.

The Sliders took advantage of three errors to take a 3-0 lead. Clay McCord walked and stole second to begin the top of the third. With two out, McCord scored when a throw to first sailed into the Midwest dugout. The Sliders tacked on two more unearned run as Robbie Knapp and Clay McCord drove in runs in the fourth.

Traverse City began to chip away at the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Midwest starter Jeff Fischer allowed a leadoff single to Brad Miller. With runners at the corners, catcher Ben Barrone attempted to pick off Miller at third and the throw soared into left to enable Miller to cross.

Fischer exited the game in the seventh inning as the Beach Bums pulled to within a run. Al Barbato walked and Mike Epping followed with a single. A groundout moved the runners to second and third. Sean Hoorelbeke singled sharply into right to score Barbato, but Mike Epping was cut down attempting to tie the game.
