Triple Play Saves Sliders 1-0 Victory

July 4, 2009 - Frontier League (FL)
Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti News Release

James Albury and David Nathanson battled in a great pitching duel Friday night that only saw one run, and a timely Slider triple play. The Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti came away with a 1-0 win over Traverse City Beach Bums from great pitching.

Midwest scored the only run of the night in the top of the second inning. Gilberto Zayas was hit by a pitch and then scored on Clay McCord's double two batters later.

Albury only allowed one hit threw the first two innings before he ran into a jam in the third. After two singles and a hit by pitch the bases were loaded with no outs, it looked like the Bums were going to blow open the game.

The next batter flew out to left field, Barrone threw out the runner tagging from second to third, and the runner was out tagging in at home for leaving earlier to complete the triple-play.

After the triple play Sliders pitching took over and didn't allow a single hit the rest of the game. Albury threw three more innings earning his fifth win.

P.J. Zocchi and Arshwin Asjes pitched the last three innings only allowing one baserunner due to a walk. Asjes picked up his third save of the season.
