Sauget, Illinois: The Freedom began their nine game roadtrip with a stop in Gateway. Gateway opened up their home schedule, and 4,337 came to see the contest.
Lefty Joey Watts (1-1) got the nod for the Freedom, the Grizzlies were able to rough him up early though, and Watts left after the second inning. After Gateway jumped on the Freedom with three runs in the first, and one in the second, Florence struck back with a four run third. It wasn't enough, and the Grizzlies opened up the flood gates, winning 17-8.
Joe Holland returned from a wrist injury, going 3-5 with a run scored. Greg Buscher went 2-5 driving in two, and Jason Hurst went 3-4 with two RBI. Jason Bowlin returned from injury last night and pitched out of the bullpen, he went three innings giving up three earned runs, striking out two. Bowlin is expected to return to the rotation later this roadtrip. Wally Quigg returned to the Freedom roster yesterday, he was 0-1 as a pinch hitter, he was the Freedom's starting second baseman last season.
The Freedom continue the roadtrip tonight, first pitch is scheduled for 8:05 at Gateway. You can listen to the action on Live365, by visiting www.florencefreedom.com. Mitch Goins (1-0) is the expected starter for the Freedom.
