Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

The Chillicothe Paints pushed a run across the plate on a fifth inning fielder's choice lifting them to a 3-2 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums.

Chillicothe (chill-ih-CAH-thee) plated runs in each of the first two innings to go up 2-0. The Beach Bums kept the game close in those innings with a couple of dazzling throws to cut down a pair of Paints' runners.

The Beach Bums tied the game in the top of the fourth inning. After Mike Reese led off the inning with a single, Paints' pitcher Lucas Palmer walked the next three batters to force in a run and make it 2-1. After a strikeout, Nathan Gravley grounded into a fielder's choice to score Al Roach and tie the game.

It would remain 2-2 until the fifth when with two outs, Travis Garcia was able to coax an infield single to score Jeff Funaro and make it 3-2 Paints.

Both starters pitched well. Palmer (1-1) went six innings allowing five hits and two runs, walking four and striking out six. Steve Shippey (1-1) threw well for the Beach Bums, allowing three runs on seven hits, walking for and fanning seven in six innings of work. Out of the bullpen, Nick Cavanaugh pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth for Chillicothe, matched by scoreless frames by Hunter Davis. Eric Teall (pronounced Teal) notched his second save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth.

The two teams finish the series tomorrow with Tony Casoli (1-0) starting for Traverse City as Jacob Hines (0-0) takes the hill for the Paints. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 94.3 The Fox FM.
